Educational system in Costa Rica is as follows:
- 3.5 years (toddlers and up) - PreKindergarden
- 4.5 years - Kindergarden
- 5.5 years - Pre-School (also known as "Preparatoria")
- 6.5 years and up - Grade School (Primary): first grade to sixth grade
- 11 and up - Highschool: seventh grade to eleventh grade
Some schools offer twelveth grade, mostly those with European education calendar and North American.
All education instutions are regulated by the Ministry of Education ("Ministerio de Educación Pública").
