The Escazú County is one of 20 counties that make up the San José Metropolitan Area. West of the downtown San José area, it has the backdrop of the Escazú mountains and protected forest areas.
When the Spaniards first came to Escazú some native indians dwelled here. In a document dated 1691 it stated that Escazú was part of Aserrí.
In 1814 more than two thousand habitants were known to live here.
Escazú has a large number or old adobe houses, many old colonial buildings still exist here.
The very exclusive neighborhood of Escazu has gained fame for its expensive homes and modern international shopping malls.
