Costa Rica has seven provinces, but also has seven major important regions.

1 Central Valley
2 Atlantic Region (Caribbean)
3 North and South Guanacaste
4 Puntarenas beaches and Islands of the Gulf
5 South Pacific

Central Valley

This is the most populated area of the country, it has forests and also mountains. To explore the Central Valley requires at least a couple of weeks.

Atlantic Region (Caribbean)

The Caribbean coastal area is one of the most important regions because of the magnificent forests. There is sport fishing and a warm afrocaribbean welcoming party.

North and South Guanacaste

In this region there is a combination of high altitud humid forests and arid low plains. The beaches are beautiful and accesible through normal vehicle. To explore this region a week stay is recommended.

Puntarenas beaches and Islands of the Gulf

In this area there are two of the most visited National Parks.

South Pacific

Located here are the tropical forests with a very irregular landscape. To travel here will need a 4x4 vehicle. This region is characterized for a high humidity weather and strong rainfall. It is very popular for experienced hikers.
