Liberia county extends inland into the Highlands of the Guanacaste Mountain Range. Tourist destinations in this region include the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano, and the Rio Canas for kayaking and birdwatching. Within a few minutes of Liberia City are the Laguna Palenque Wetlands and the Lomas de Barbudal Biological Station.

Liberia city
Liberia city is the main city of the province of Guanacaste. It was founded in the eighteenth century, it is 4 hours from the capital and it is also known as the "white city" because it used to have white roads made with "cascajo".
This city is located at 144 meters above sea level (472 feet). The average temperature is 27,1 °C (80.8 °F), the annual Rainfall: 59- 79 inches.
The second major international airport (Daniel Oduber Airport) is located here.
