Tourism is becoming the most important activity for Costa Rica. Many come for ecotourism, since Costa Rica has protected over 25% of its land into 20 National Parks and many reserves (not counting private reserves).

In 2006, 1.6 million tourists arrived to Costa Rica, giving approximately 1.6 billion dollars for the country. Almost 250 cruise ships arrived in 2006 alone.
